Dearest friends, family, and followers,
My life has been so busy over the last few weeks that I never got to fully celebrate THIS + THAT'S anniversary which was at the end of September. I was starting to write this blog post to talk about this super cute floral off-the-shoulder dress but stopped mid sentence because I knew I wanted to take the time to sit back and think about this past year. For those that don't know or are new to following this blog, I actually started this incredible journey with one of my best friends and old colleagues Kait. The idea sprouted over margaritas (of course) and we couldn't stop thinking about it. She would come over to my desk and we would eagerly talk about the blog and what the content would entail. Literally maybe a week after that margarita happy hour we had started MARGARITAS + MISSONI. Yes, THIS + THAT was originally MARGARITAS + MISSONI! It was that way for several months until my lawyer father stepped in and told us something about copyright laws. Who knew?! Haha. So we had to drop the MISSONI but could not think of something equally cute to follow after MARGARITAS. We originally wanted to keep MARGARITAS in the name because we are both obsessed and probably drink way too much (#mykryptonite.) After being depressed for a few weeks about the downfall of our blog name Kait and I were thinking of what this blog is. It's not just fashion. It's not just lifestyle. It's not just food. It's not just travel. It's a little bit of everything… a la THIS + THAT.
Kait decided to leave THIS + THAT to focus on her health right when I decided to move to San Francisco. Although I am forever saddened that she is no longer part of this blog, I thank her everyday for being my co founder. For the past several years, I had always wanted to start a blog but to be honest, I never jumped the gun because I was too scared. Too scared of putting myself out there, too scared that I wouldn't have followers, and too scared for the scrutiny and judgement. I am very critical of myself and actually hate having photos taken of me (ironic, I know.) But blogging has forced me to be more creative and to be more outgoing. I am an extroverted introvert - does that make any sense?! I'm totally a home body and literally get anxiety when I have to go to events by myself. But once I'm comfortable enough you can't shut me up! I have truly grown a lot personally since going down this blogging path.
Looking back over this past year, the blog has had it's ups and downs but it has never stopped being a source of fun and inspiration for me. I have gotten to work with great brands, met great people within the industry, and most of all I have loved being a part of the blogging community. When I was just a few months into this blogosphere, W was asking me about other bloggers and if we are in competition with one another. In a sense, yes I guess technically we are competitors but no blogger is the same. We each bring something different to the table. What I love most of this community is how supportive bloggers are of one another and I'm so proud to be involved in a positive outlet.
Other than my original co founder Kait, I namely thank my amazing boyfriend Warren. He has been my #1 supporter and always encouraged me to start a blog. He is my patient photographer and I don't know what I would do without him! So thank you, W, for always putting up with me even when you don't want to :)
I truly look forward to what the future of THIS + THAT holds for me. The future is uncertain but I am certain that my love and passion for this blog will continue to grow and I can't wait to see how it flourishes.
