This past Saturday W and I decided to go explore Chinatown since we have yet to go since we moved to the city! We first grabbed lunch at Café de la Presse which is the most darling parisian cafe located right outside the gates to Chinatown! I highly recommend going! The service can be a little slow but the deliciousness of the croque madame makes up for that ;)
W and I seriously lucked out - it turns out that the Chinese community were celebrating their new year the day we decided to explore! (They had to push back their big celebration due to the Superbowl) We had so much fun walking up and down Grant street despite the crazy crowds! It was so great because they had the street entirely shut down and had vendors, concerts, and other booths set up all along one side of the street!
We popped into several shops but didn't end up buying anything - I wanted to take in the atmosphere around us rather than shop. I do however want to go back to one of the many tea shops! There was also a huge parade all throughout the union square/downtown area but it was getting late and my feet were hurting! I know, terrible excuse but I should of worn more comfortable shoes! We did however catch a glimpse of the dragon practicing which was so cool!
Being in Chinatown felt like we were transported into a whole different city and country. I love hearing so many different languages being spoken. And more than that, I loved all the strings of lanterns all throughout the street! It was truly magical seeing all of these different colors, languages, and people! It gave me another reason why I love San Francisco - the different cultures here really make living in this city so special.
