Hallelujah! I think that the Indian summer has finally arrived in San Francisco and I'm thoroughly enjoying the warmer and sunnier weather. I’m going to be honest here; it was a bit tough watching all my Texas friends enjoy their summers going to the lake, laying out, wearing their favorite summer dresses and sandals. While I’m over here like it’s cool guys, I’m super enjoying this summer weather here wearing my favorite sweaters and trying not to get depressed with the gloomy weather aka Karl the Fog. June gloom is real, y’all.
But now all the Texans (and basically everywhere else but here) are getting ready for fall and I’m breaking out my favorite dresses that I can finally wear WITHOUT a jacket! But hey, I’ll take some warm weather anytime I can get! Plus, the warm weather here is actually enjoyable as opposed to sweating your make up off in the 100+ degree heat. So take that, Texas!
Growing up in Austin, summer BBQs were plentiful. BBQs always consisted of three things: BBQd meat (obviously), potato salad, and iced tea. Im a huge iced tea fanatic (I can thank my Grandmama for that addiction.) For some reason, I’ve always preferred iced tea over hot tea. I tried to get into the cool club of enjoying hot tea in the morning instead of coffee but I seem to only crave hot tea when I’m ill. Anyone else that way?!
Now that it is sweet summertime in San Francisco, I thought it would be so fun to host a fun (iced) tea party at our apartment! Pique tea was perfect for my get together as I didn’t have to brew up a batch of hot tea first! Their tea crystals quickly dissolve in either hot or cool water.
Pique tea has many different tea collections – earl grey, black tea, and jasmine green tea, which is what I used and my personal favorite. And not only is green tea already so great for you, but all of their teas are organic and due to their proprietary leaf-to-crystal process, the crystals have 2x the amount of antioxidants compared to loose leaf tea. I mean, how amazing is that?!
Having these individual tea crystal packets are so great because if one of your friends does not enjoy green tea tea, she could quickly make her preferred flavor. Because we all know we have THAT one picky friend ;) Pique Teas recently launched at Whole Foods earlier this month and they have been kind enough to offer my readers a free trial! For the tablescape, you always have to start off with a gorgeous floral arrangement or several arrangements depending on the size of your table. Since I have a small table, I opted for a small arrangement of white hydrangeas, as I knew I wanted to bring in pops of color with my serving pieces. This small cake stand stand from Anthropologie is one of my go-to pieces for entertaining, as it is the perfect size for small appetizers, desserts, fruit, etc. What’s also so great about it is that when you are not using it for entertaining purposes, it makes for the perfect jewelry dish to hold your favorite baubles!
The key to being a good hostess is knowing what your guests will enjoy. So I swapped out the heavy BBQ and potato salad for sweet treats and fruit. I am by no means a baker so I stopped by my favorite grocery store, Whole Foods (shout out to my hometown for bringing us this amazing store!) to grab cupcakes, marbled cake, and of course, strawberries to have a well rounded meal ;)
