This past weekend I went to visit my bestie Katie in LA! She moved there about 6 months ago with her hubby. It was SO much fun visiting them! It was a super quick trip but we packed in as much fun as possible! I hadn't been to LA in YEARS so I wanted to do and see some touristy stuff! Hopefully next time I will have a bit more time in LA to do and see even more :) I've outlined our itinerary below and highly recommend it if you're in LA for less than 48 hours!
I arrived after work around 630pm on Friday evening. We grabbed dinner at a local restaurant in her neighborhood (Culver City) called AR Cucina and it was some of the most amazing Italian I've ever had! Highly recommend it! We then headed back to her apartment to catch up over more wine, obviously.
We ended up sleeping in a little bit and didn't get our day started until around 11am! But first things first, we went to the Griffith Observatory. I was dying to go here to see the gorgeous 360 views of LA. And let me tell you, the view did not disappoint! If we had more time, I would love to explore the observatory more in depth. It seemed super fascinating as I'm obsessed with constellations! On the lawn outside of the observatory, they had the paths of the orbits outlined which I thought was pretty cool! I would recommend getting there earlier than we did as parking was tough! We actually ended up getting pretty lucky but we could of had a much longer of a hike! Also, at the observatory there are awesome hiking trails! We had originally planned on doing a hike but it literally got rained out.
Afterwards, we headed to Alfred Coffee to grab a latte for fuel to keep our day going! It was seriously THE best vanilla latte I've ever had. No jokes. We went to their location in West Hollywood as our lunch spot was only a few blocks away. I also want to try out their tea room! Not going to lie, want to try out their tea room just because of their cute cactus cups haha. #eatingfortheinsta
We then headed to Gracias Madre to grab a bite to eat. I was the one who wanted to go here because I had seen this place ALL OVER instagram. I was like okay, it's cute so the foods gotta be good right?! For those that don't know, Gracias Madre is vegan mexican food. I don't get why people are obsessed with it, my food tasted like SHIT! Maybe we ordered wrong or maybe I just could never be vegan haha. We ordered "Tortilla Soup" and it was basically water with soggy vegetables. Katie and I were adding salsa and salt and pepper to our soup with hopes it would add some sort of flavor. This was a lunch FAIL. The only saving grace was their delicious margaritas. And speaking of margaritas, they have a $200 margarita for those with deep pockets. All I gotta say is it better be damn good.
We walked around Melrose for a bit and then headed off to Beverly Hills! We wanted to grab a cocktail by the pool at the Beverly Hills Hotel but it was closed due to "inclement weather." AKA it sprinkled that morning. I was pretty bummed but I was glad that I got to see the infamous hotel! We drove around looking at all the gorgeous houses in Beverly Hills for a bit trying to guess who lived behind such mansions.
After stalking people in Beverly Hills, we headed over to the LACMA Urban Light exhibit out front. It was so cool although super packed with tourists like myself ;)
We ended up cooking dinner at their apartment that evening which was so much fun! We played a game called Pinochle and it was a BLAST! Omg I'm used to playing card games or heads up but this was a completely new game to me! It was beyond fun! We ended up going out afterwards and headed to a house party then out to a bar after that. It was the perfect end to a perfect day!
We ended up wanting to sleep in more than we did due to the amount of wine we had the night before but we had a brunch reservation in Santa Monica to make! We went to the cutest restaurant called One Pico at the Shutters Hotel! It was right on the beach and I enjoyed waffles with the most spectacular view. , My other bestie Marisa drove up from Irvine to spend the day with us as she was luckily home on break from law school!
I really wanted to go over to the Santa Monica pier after brunch but no one else was excited to hop on a ride like I was haha. So after brunch, we headed to Venice and walked around Abbott Kinney. I easily could of spent all day here!! It was the cutest street with the cutest shops and restaurants! Marisa and I bought both a cute choker necklace from a local designer, Wendy Faye, which I am now obsessed with! Check her out for really cute dainty jewelry. We had so much fun popping into all the cool shops! I could of easily spent my paycheck on this street haha.
Afterwards we headed back to Katie's apartment because I thought I had a flight to catch… But when we got back I found out my flight was CANCELLED! I'll save you the saga but the short story is that I had two flights get cancelled then ended up having to go to the orange county airport (instead of LAX) in order to get back home to SF! Craziness. But it was all worth it for the best weekend! Can't wait to get back!
PS: Sorry for the bad quality photos! I had a blonde moment and totally forgot to bring my camera!! iPhone pics will have to suffice :)
