A few weeks ago I made a trip down to For the Face in Palo Alto to get a Micropen with PRP facial! Never heard of it? Let me tell you all about it!
Micropen is micro-needling aka "The Vampire Facial." I'm sure some of you have heard about it via Kim K (aka photo above)! I did the Micropen with PRP which means that they first draw a vile of blood from you which they then do some kind of crazy separation of your red blood cells and extract just the Platelet Rich Plasma. You can read more about that process here.
Pro Tip: Be sure you're very hydrated before getting this done! I'm already a hard prick, but coupled with the fact that I was also dehydrated we had even more trouble! They were able to get a little blood but not as much as what's typically needed.
Now what does this feel like? Well, the nurse applied numbing cream so I virtually felt no pain!! To be honest, I was a little nervous as I am slightly scared of needles... But you have nothing to worry about! Next, the nurse adjusts the pen to the correct setting so the needles go to the correct depth in your skin. The nurse will then micropen (pressing the pen onto your face and moving it in one direction) focusing on one area of your face then applies the PRP on top of the fresh "wounds" and gently rubs it in so the PRP starts working it's magical affects! This process will continue on your entire face until complete! This process legit only takes about 10-15 minutes. It's super quick!
Now don't be scared... you'll definitely be bloody afterwards but the nurse will wipe you up clean! Your face will be very red the first and second day but by the third day, you'll be able to cover any lingering redness with makeup. Then the next few days my skin was very dry in certain patches but definitely manageable with some face moisturizer.
I didn't notice a big difference in my skin until probably about a week later once it all healed up. The biggest difference I noticed in my skin was it's overall complexion -- my skin was very even toned and my pores were noticeably smaller! I think I would of seen even more of a difference if I was able to apply even more PRP to my skin during the process. So next time, I'm definitely drinking lots and lots of water before to ensure we are able to draw a sufficient amount of blood! Keep reading below for more additional benefits of this facial!
