Ok, so the title of this post is a little deceiving as it's *slightly* more than 24 hours BUT it's pretty dang close!! Carmel is the perfect weekend trip especially if you live in the Bay Area. It's a short 2 hour drive down highway 1, which by the way, is the most gorgeous highway EVER. Let me take you along our 24(+) hours in Carmel and our perfect stay at Hofsas House.
War and I decided to drive down to Carmel after work on Friday so we could have a full day there on Saturday. We tried to leave a little early so we could get there in time for dinner, but alas, we (he) are a herd of turtles and didn't get on the road as early as we planned. We ended up getting to our charming hotel, Hofsas House, around 9pm. We checked into the cutest room (keep reading for photos of our room!) and were greeted with wine and cheese. Now, that's my kind of greeting!
The next morning we woke up and headed to the lobby (ok Warren went to the lobby) to grab some complimentary breakfast before starting our day! We noshed on some tasty pastries and sipped on OJ and coffee to fuel our start to a perfect day!
We started off our day walking around the town because it truly is the most charming of towns! To me, it literally feels like you're walking around in a fairytale as there are literally houses and buildings that look straight out of one thanks to the architect Hugh Comstock. We also popped into my favorite store in Carmel, featured above, called Paloosh. I highly recommend stopping in next time you're in town! Although I didn't purchase anything this trip, I have bought this hat and this pair of jeans from the store!
After strolling around town, we thought it would be fun to try out a few tasting rooms! We headed towards my favorite, Blair Wines, because DUH it's named after me. I kid, I kid, but the wines are pretty tasty and the owner is a hoot and makes it a really fun experience. We then decided it was time for some bubbles so walked to Caraccioli Cellars where we tasted their sparkling wine along with some pinot noir.
After drinking we thought it would be a good idea to grab some lunch so we headed to 5th Avenue Deli and grabbed some sandwiches, pasta salad, and a bottle of cold Chardonnay (because #vacation) and headed to the beach for a picnic! The drive to the beach along the Scenic Away (rightly named) is truly stunning with endless views of the Pacific Ocean on one side and gorgeous houses on the other. When we arrived to the beach, we were greeted with the cutest "LOVE" sign made out of driftwood. I mean honestly, could this get any more picture perfect?
After spending a few hours at the beach, we decided it was time to head back to our hotel to relax and get ready for dinner. Since Carmel is a walking town, I opted for my cute yet oh-so-comfy wrap up sandals and paired them with my go-to skinny jeans and flowy off the shoulder top! I would recommend grabbing a light sweater or jacket to bring with you as Carmel's temps take a drop in the evenings!
We had a delicious dinner at Basil which is highly rated on Yelp (yes, we're those people who look up restaurants on Yelp before going) but were very disappointed with the service. We decided to pass on having dessert there (although it did look amazing) as we were just so frustrated with the lack of service but I'm sure glad we did!
Since we had a very filling dinner, we decided to walk around town for a little before heading back to our hotel. We stumbled across Carmel Bakery and the heavenly smell of fresh baked cookies lured us inside. As per usual, we ordered way too many desserts because we couldn't make up our mind! War is a ice cream lover and went with a scoop of some sort of cookie dough concocation and I went with a caramel apple and a cookie! We ended up saving the cookie to snack on our road trip home the next day ;)
The following morning, we packed up our things and checked out of the ever-so-charming Hofsas House. Our room was so comfortable and I loved how we had a wet bar complete with a fridge to keep our wine chilled and bar stools to eat our complimentary breakfast. This hotel was the perfect place to stay for our weekend getaway not only for it's amenities but that it is also within walking distance of everything Carmel has to offer: fine dining and shops, wine tasting, and the beach! I highly encourage you to book with Hofsas House the next time you find yourself in Carmel! You will not be disappointed with their hospitality. Click here to find out more about Hofsas House!
